Terms of Service
Short version: DataDrop is a pay-as-you-go cloud storage service. You pay only for the storage you keep, billed by the second. We cannot read your Vault files — they are encrypted on your device. Be respectful, don't misuse the service, and don't store illegal content.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating a DataDrop account or using the DataDrop service at app.datadrop.co.in (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and DataDrop regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. By using DataDrop, you represent that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide during registration is accurate.
If you are using DataDrop on behalf of a company or organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
3. Account Registration
You must register with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You agree to notify us immediately at datadrop.contact@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account. DataDrop is not liable for losses caused by unauthorised use of your credentials.
4. Free Trial
New accounts receive a 15-day free trial that includes 5 GB of storage. No credit card is required during the trial period. The trial is available once per person — creating multiple accounts to extend trial access is a violation of these Terms.
At the end of your trial, your account becomes read-only. You retain access to view and download all your files. Files are preserved for 30 days from your account creation date (15 days after the trial ends). To continue uploading, set up UPI AutoPay and configure a monthly spending limit.
5. Storage & Billing
DataDrop charges for storage using byte-second billing: you pay for the number of bytes stored multiplied by the number of seconds they are stored. The rate is a flat ₹1.49 per GB per month, regardless of storage size.
Billing is calculated in real time. When you delete a file, billing for that file stops immediately. A minimum charge of ₹1 applies for any billing period in which storage was used. Downloads and file sharing are always free.
Charges are collected once per month via UPI AutoPay. By setting up UPI AutoPay, you authorise DataDrop to debit your account for the amount owed at the end of each billing period, not to exceed your monthly spending limit.
6. Spending Limits
Before uploading files, you must set a monthly spending limit. This limit caps the maximum amount you can be charged in any billing month. You cannot store more data than your spending limit allows — the system will prevent additional uploads once the limit is reached.
Your spending limit is not a prepaid balance. It is a ceiling on charges. You are billed only for what you actually used, never more than the limit.
You may adjust your spending limit at any time from your account settings. Changes take effect immediately.
7. Vault Encryption
The Vault is a zero-knowledge encrypted storage area within your DataDrop account. Files stored in the Vault are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded to our servers. DataDrop servers receive and store only encrypted ciphertext.
DataDrop cannot decrypt your Vault files. We do not have access to your encryption keys. We cannot assist you in recovering Vault files if you forget your PIN and lose your recovery phrase.
You are solely responsible for:
- Keeping your Vault PIN confidential
- Storing your recovery phrase in a safe location
- Any loss of access to Vault files due to forgotten credentials
Vault files cannot be shared with other users. This restriction is architectural and cannot be overridden.
8. Workspace
A Workspace is an end-to-end encrypted shared storage area. Only members explicitly invited by email can access Workspace files. Each member holds their own encryption key — DataDrop cannot read Workspace contents.
The Workspace owner (Admin) is responsible for managing member access, roles, and permissions. DataDrop is not liable for files shared within a Workspace or for actions taken by Workspace members.
If a Workspace Admin's account is terminated, the Workspace may become inaccessible. DataDrop is not responsible for data loss in this scenario.
9. File Sharing
Files in your Files storage (not Vault) can be shared with other DataDrop accounts. Sharing is account-based — there are no public links. The recipient must have a verified DataDrop account.
You may set expiry dates, view limits, and download permissions on any share. You can revoke shares at any time. DataDrop is not responsible for how recipients use files you share with them.
10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to store, share, or transmit content that:
- Is illegal under applicable law, including Indian law
- Infringes on any intellectual property rights
- Contains viruses, malware, or any code designed to harm systems
- Constitutes harassment, hate speech, or threats of violence
- Is child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or exploitative of minors
- Violates another person's privacy
You also agree not to:
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service
- Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract source code from the Service
- Use automated means to access the Service at a rate that exceeds normal usage
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits or the trial policy
DataDrop reserves the right to investigate suspected violations and suspend or terminate accounts accordingly.
11. Account Suspension & Termination
By you: You may delete your account at any time from account settings. Upon deletion, all your files and data are permanently erased within 30 days.
By DataDrop: We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, fail to pay amounts owed, or if we are required to do so by law. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination unless the violation is severe.
Upon termination for non-payment, your account becomes read-only and your files are retained for 35 days. You will receive email reminders at 7, 21, and 30 days. After 35 days without payment, files are permanently deleted with no recovery possible.
12. Data Retention
- Active accounts: Files are retained as long as your account is active and storage charges are being paid.
- After trial expiry: Files retained for 30 days from account creation (15 days after trial ends); then permanently deleted.
- After payment failure: Account read-only; files retained for 35 days; then permanently deleted.
- After account deletion: All data permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Vault files: Deleted with your account. We cannot recover them — they are encrypted.
13. Intellectual Property
You retain all rights to the files you store on DataDrop. By uploading files, you grant DataDrop a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, transmit, and display your files solely to provide the Service to you.
DataDrop retains all rights to the Service itself, including its design, code, trademarks, and brand. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without explicit written permission.
14. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
DataDrop makes reasonable efforts to maintain uptime and data durability but does not guarantee them. You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of important data.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DataDrop's total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the total amount paid by you to DataDrop in the 12 months preceding the claim.
DataDrop is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, revenue, or profits.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India. If you are a consumer in India, you retain any rights afforded to you under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
16. Changes to These Terms
DataDrop may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email and by posting a notice on the Service. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
If you disagree with any changes, your remedy is to discontinue use of the Service and delete your account.
